What is the tax percentage really?

I work with a lot of software developers, who earn well, and so often talk about tax being 45% in South Africa... but does anyone really pay 45%?

At a salary of R 3,000,000.00 the tax will be 39.23%.
The tax never will get to 45%, it can get very close, but never actually gets to it - tax is actually a form of a asymptote... as it approaches 45%, it tends to infinity.
